Sites and assets
Purpose
Explain how sites and assets work together in InspectAssets and why accurate setup is critical.
Sites
Sites represent locations, facilities, or operational areas. Sites are used for:
- inspection planning and scheduling
- inspector selection and filtering
- reporting and organisational roll-ups
Recommended site governance:
- use consistent naming conventions
- avoid creating duplicates for the same location
- document any site renames that affect reporting
Assets
Assets represent equipment or items to be inspected and tracked over time. Assets enable:
- repeatable inspections
- trend analysis and asset health history
- structured reporting by asset class/type
Recommended asset governance:
- assign assets to the correct site
- include stable identifiers (serial/asset tag where applicable)
- avoid “temporary” assets that later need merging
Why this matters
Most reporting and insight issues are caused by:
- incorrect site selection during inspections
- duplicate assets or inconsistent naming
- major template changes without governance
Treat sites and assets like master data: keep them stable and intentional.
